Your IT system no longer just supports your business…it’s the heart on which it depends…
Full IT System Health Check – most IT companies can’t really tell you how well your IT system is working: where the bottlenecks are, which computers are struggling to keep up and why, can your system cope with your future needs and which parts of your network are ageing and need replacing.
You’ll be pleased to know that Nomis can tell you as our SCAMP system provides a ‘holistic’ or whole of system analysis, right down to component level. We’ll provide you with a detailed report and work with you to plan and budget the necessary improvements to bring you up to speed. Our policy is always to help you make the most of what you’ve already invested in so you have minimal outlay from day one.
Installing a Brand New Network – let’s face it, the majority of companies already have some form of IT system in place. However, businesses open new offices and sometimes decide that what they have is so passed its sell-by date that replacement is the only cost effective option.
Our experience means that we can design and implement systems which are ‘future proofed’ so they can adapt as your business develops and grows.
Refresh your Existing Network – we’re often asked ‘How long will my IT system last before I need to replace it?’. At Nomis we normally suggest five years as a guideline however, this is largely governed by your business needs. Some of our clients need to upgrade workstations every two to three years as the software their business relies on develops and requires more resources. Other clients have systems older than five years as they only use them for regular office tasks e.g. Wordprocessing, Spreadsheets, E-mail, Payroll etc…
Bear in mind that after five years, it’s likely that the software you bought may have compatibility issues with more up to date systems. Our ‘Full IT System Health Check’ allows our experts to identify which areas of your system need ‘refreshing’ and implement a planned update program to fit in with your budget.
Internet Connectivity – a fast and reliable connection to the internet is now almost as essential to your business as the electricity supply. You’ve come to depend on it yet most internet providers don’t give any form of broadband service guarantee – I bet you didn’t know that! In the days of 56K dial-ups and 128K ISDN, people accepted that ‘outages’ were the norm. Nowadays even a one hour outage can cause serious problems – we rely on our broadband to provide remote support, monitoring and maintenance to our clients.
Nomis have worked with Onyx Internet for many years now. They provide a reliable and fast range of connectivity options and if ever there is a problem, we get to speak personally to the engineers. So talk to us if your business internet connection is slow or unreliable, if you need a ‘leased line’ or ‘private circuit’, or maybe you need reliable web hosting?
Broadband Testing – ever been in the situation where your broadband or ADSL connection is intermittant or dead? If you call your broadband provider or ISP, they will almost always tell you by default there is no fault. You then go back to your IT provider who says there is no fault with the equipment either. The proverbial ‘rock and a hard place’.
We’ve invested in a special device to test, and if needed monitor, your internet connection. It can diagnose all problems with either your line or connection. What’s more, we can set it up to remotely monitor problems over time and generate a report. For us, it has been an invaluable tool to help our clients. So, if your internet connection is slow or unreliable, give us a call.
Network Infrastructure – whilst you depend on your IT system to run your business, your IT system depends on its infrastructure for reliability and performance.
The network cabling, sockets and switches on which your IT system relies, are often forgotten and could be many years old by now. We can test your existing cabling to make sure it can still perform. Just like other cabling, rats and mice can chew it, water can get in and wires can be chaffed, making your network slow and unreliable. You should also consider that most existing network cabling is based on 100MB CAT5 technology whilst IT has moved on and some systems demand a 1000MB (1GB) CAT6 connection. If your IT system seems slow, especially when accessing databases or accounts software, it maybe that you need this ten-fold increase in network speed. We can check out your system and find the bottleneck.
Data Backup and Storage – it’s a simple fact of life that if you lose all your company data, your business probably won’t survive a year. So many business owners believe ‘it won’t happen to me’ – chances are it won’t – but then again it might! We know that it does happen because we’re sometimes asked to try and recover the data from faulty equipment.
I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s a much better idea to implement a reliable backup plan which is then monitored and tested regularly. Whilst this is part of our SCAMP service, we’d be pleased to help you protect your most valuable asset, your company data. We provide both on-site and on-line solutions. Talk to us soon if you don’t want to lose all your accounts, quotes, payroll information, e-mails etc…
Moving Office – you know that nagging feeling when you leave your holiday hotel or say goodbye to your old house? You’re sure you’ve forgotten something! So you’ve just left your old office for the last time and are heading for your new premises. Suddenly, the penny drops and you realise that your new broadband won’t be live for a week; what do you do? We’ve seen it happen! Chances are you know how your company works but aren’t an IT specialist.
Fortunately Nomis are IT experts and we can project manage the relocation of all your IT systems and services. Let us ensure your infrastructure is in place, that your broadband
Remote Workers – more employees are working from home than ever before. It helps them manage their childcare needs, save on fuel costs or is just more convenient because of where they live. With a reliable internet connection and IP based telephones, your clients will never know that your remote worker is not sat in the office next to you.
A number of our clients have employees who work from home, staff who work ‘on location’ and others who travel the world and need to stay connected. Nomis provide remote connectivity solutions using a variety of solutions depending on your needs. These include ‘thin client’ and VPN technologies.
We can help IT Managers – these beings are very protective of their domain. Many of the IT Managers we’ve spoken to long to get involved in new projects that will streamline and benefit their employer’s business but get totally bogged down with day to day tasks. In general, IT Managers are clever people, so do you really think they enjoy running system checks, installing updates and performing maintenance on your company IT system?
You’ll be pleased to hear we can automate all of this whilst also pro-actively looking for issues that could impact your business. They can then be resolved by either Nomis or your IT Manager. We work with IT Managers to help them do their job more effectively and free up their time so they can spend it on interesting projects which benefit your business.
Microsoft Sharepoint – Microsoft SharePoint 2010 makes it easier for people to work together. Using SharePoint 2010, your people can set up websites to share information with others, manage documents from start to finish, and publish reports to help everyone make better decisions. SharePoint 2010 helps you share ideas and expertise and find the right business information to make better decisions.
If you have a server, you may already have SharePoint. It includes many standard templates for common tasks but it can also be customised to suit your business needs.
Give us a call and we’ll show you how SharePoint 2010 can benefit your business.
Cloud Computing – this is the latest ‘buzz phrase’ on the web, but what does it mean? The diagram to the left gives you an idea of the principle. Most businesses have their central resource or ‘server’ on their own premises. This is great because you can see it, access it quickly and continue to work if your broadband fails. It isn’t the best solution if you have lots of remote users or want the entire world to access an application you’ve created.
‘The Cloud’ is essentially a part of the internet where you can set up your server away from your premises, to use as a business resource like you do now, or to run web based applications for the whole world to access. We see the biggest benefit as being the ability to set up a server in the cloud, i.e. not on your premises, allowing remote users from across the world to work as normal, wherever they are, as if they were office based. If you think your business could benefit from being cloud based, please give us a call.
